Basement Water Damage It starts downstairs.

Water finds the lowest room first. We get it out and dry everything it reached.

Below the grade line

A basement holds on to water.

A basement sits below the ground around it, so water has nowhere to drain on its own.

It comes through the floor drain, the wall joint, the window well or a pipe overhead.

The puddle you can see is the small part of the job.

Water wicks up drywall and travels under paneling, carpet and the bottom plate of a wall.

EPA says to dry water-damaged areas and items within 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth.

So the first call matters more than the first bucket.

What we look for first

Where basement water hides.

  1. 01

    Bottom of the drywall

Finished walls drink water from the floor up, and paint can hide it for days.

  2. 02

    Under the carpet

Pad holds water long after the carpet on top feels close to dry.

  3. 03

    Behind the washer and boiler

The tight corners get the least air, so they stay wet the longest.

  4. 04

    Stored boxes and old furniture

Anything sitting on the floor keeps the slab under it wet.

How the job goes

Out, dry, then read it again.

  1. 1

    Call us first

Call (888) 929-0245 and say where it came from and what it reached. We are open 24 hours.

  2. 2

    Get the water out

Standing water comes out first, then anything too wet to save comes out with it.

  3. 3

    Dry it and read it

Air movers and dehumidifiers run while we keep checking the walls and floor.

  4. 4

Read it until it is dry

Same spots, same meter, until the wet walls match the dry ones.

Why basements get hit

Older houses, finished basements.

Many older houses have basements that were finished years later.

That means paneling, carpet and old drain lines stacked on a slab from another era.

So water has more to soak into than the floor you can see.

I had an emergency where a drain pipe was clogged and needed to be cleaned and my basement needed to be sanitized...

Questions we get

On this one, people ask.

Should I run a shop vac myself first?

If the water is clean and no outlets or appliances are wet, it can help.

If it came up through a drain or toilet, stay out of it and call us.

Sewage-backed water is a different job.

Can the carpet be saved?

It depends on what the water was and how long it sat.

Clean water caught early gives you more options than a drain backup.

We will tell you what we see before anything gets thrown out.

How do I know the basement is really dry?

A moisture reading says so, not the calendar and not your hand on the paint.

Cover a wet wall too early and the moisture stays inside with nowhere to go.

Ask to see the readings before anything gets covered.
